Taco Seasoning Recipe
Have you ever wanted to make your own taco seasoning mix?
Have you ever wondered: How do I make taco seasoning myself?
Well, it's not hard at all, you just mix together some of the ingredients that are already in your spice cabinet!

There are so many advantages to making your own taco seasoning mix:
  • Better flavor
  • Save money
  • Adjust the salt level you want
  • Avoid MSG
  • etc.

DIY Taco Seasoning Mix

Recipe Taco Seasoning

2 teaspoons minced onion
2 teaspoons salt*
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon cornstarch

Combine ingredients, mix.  When ready to serve add to cooked meat (1 - 1.5 pounds) with 3/4 cup water.  Simmer for 15 minutes.
*Omit/reduce salt if you are trying to limit your salt-intake,
or use sea-salt for a sodium-free version.

You can mix your seasoning in a bowl (quick method),
in a zip-lock baggie (great for travel),

What a great idea! I love the seasoning stored in the cute little jar. I have been making my own seasoning for a while now, but have never tried minced onion it in. I think that would be a delicious addition, so I'll try it next time!

Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving the sweet comments :) Hope you have a great weekend!

Yes yes yes!! We eat Mexican food around here like crazy (case in point: we had burritos tonight, we're having enchiladas tomorrow, and I'm making enough salsa to feed 30 people for two parties over the weekend). I've wanted to try and make our own taco seasoning so this is perfect! Thanks so much!

What a great idea! I'm not a fan of onion. Do you think I could omit it and still have it taste ok? We are almost out of taco seasoning, so it would be great to be able to whip some up in a hurry.

Hi Jennifer! Thanks so much for stopping by! Certainly: omitting anything you don't like is the beauty of making your own seasoning mixes!

Hi Crystelle, I am going to try this. I never by packets, but this would come in handy when making tacos & have ready in advance. What is the cornstarch for, preserving freshness? Thanks for sharing & linking up @ DearCreatives.com

Hi Theresa! Nice of you to stop by! Glad to hear you always season "from scratch". The cornstarch is added as a bonding agent.

Happy Valentines day!

This looks great and so easy! One quick question: I know that none of the ingredients are initially refrigerated so this feels like a silly question, but can I store this in the cabinet or should I store it in the fridge/freezer?
