Oh, the weather outside is frightful.
Frightfully warm!!! that is.....
Time to get out our swimsuits, or, better yet, make a new one!
~~~
I was able to score a cute bikini for my daughter on clearance last September
at a very reasonable price.
This spring this bikini turned into a tankini to be used this summer season.
~~~
She (and I), prefer it when her belly is covered up,
so we turned this super cute bikini into a fun and convenient tankini.
~~~
This is super easy to do and I have done time and time again,
in fact I have discussed it before in this post.
Our daughter loves to swim, and would LIVE in the pool if we let her, so a new tankini was essential.
Included is the sewing tutorial with easy step-by-step instructions
on how to turn a bikini into a tankini.
Supplies:
  • Bikini
  • Contrasting or Coordinating Lycra (Swimsuit-Style) Fabric
  • Thread
  • Basic Sewing Supplies
Follow the easy step-by-step directions for a DIY tankini in the slideshow below
(Sorry - the black fabric I used is somewhat wrinkly;
I assure you: it did not look wrinkly once she jumped into the pool....  hahaha..!!)
Sewing tip:
  • Use a stretch-stitch on your machine (or, if your machine does not have one:  a slight zig-zag)
Measure fabric:
  • Width:  measure the circumference of the bikini-top.  Divide by two:  add one inch
  • Length:  measure your daughter or her favorite tankini.  Add 1 1/2 inches
Let me know what you think!!
Sew Your Own Tankini
How to sew a super-easy tankini for you or your kids.
This tankini was super easy to make.
All I did was buy a bikini on clearance at the end of the season.
Then I took off the clasp in the back and sewed it together.
I measured the circumference and added some swimsuit Lycra-style fabric to cover her belly.
Voila!  A new tankini!
Tankinis are great for playing in the sun and water with.  Nicer than swimsuit, because potty breaks are much easier....
Her is my sunshine jumping on the trampoline after school, with a sprinkler underneath....
Enjoy making your own super easy tankini.....
:D
