Happy Spring Colors Lisa Apron I just happy cheerful spring colors..... and this time of year, when spring is just upon us, is perfect for them... So now I can cook int he kitchen in STYLE! And be happy and cheerful doing it.... :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wrote up the free apron sewing pattern using VERY detailed step-by-step instructions, taking pictures every step of the way. There are a lot of steps to make this fun apron, but they should be extremely easy to follow.
The straps wrap around and tie int he front.... Cute right? I put the pocket side on the right to accommodate right-handed cooks, but for a left handed cook, it would be easy to just flip the two panels around when sewing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For this apron I selected a happy cheerful springy print including two fabrics with a bit of texture to add interest and depth. I love having these kinds of colors around in my kitchen..... They make me smile... :)
Lisa Apron in happy cheerful colors Of course the original green Lisa Apron is also super cute..., I think anyway....

"Though my trials may be difficult, there's always someone who has it harder...." ~ Brittany
Though my trials may be difficult,, there's always someone who has it harder. I taught the beehives (12 and 13 year old girls) in church on Sunday, and the lesson was on "Why do we have adversity?" I made a sock monkey to illustrate the point that Brittany makes in the enclosed video: We may have difficult times, but we still have received blessing and talents to bless the lives of other people. One of the things Brittany does to keep her life in perspective is to make sock monkeys and give them to hospitalized children.
Hang on, sock monkey! The girls LOVED the sock monkey, and we will probably end up each making one as a class sometime soon. After all: I learned a few things while I was making it; for instance: the arms and legs (and tail) are super-duper long if you use knee-high socks! I think I will use crew socks next time....
But he's still cute....! :) Doesn't the sock monkey just melt your heart....????
Brittany receives her nutrition through a feeding tube. Every morning she prepares her daily meals and must carry them with her always. Watch her inspiring {sock-monkey} message below:
"The more [time and effort] you spend focusing on yourself, the more likely you are to fall into a rut and feel... sorry for yourself. But reaching out to others, you really forget your own problems. The joy that comes with service exceeds the difficulty in my life by a tremendous amount." ~ Brittany

Easy Jeans and Fleece Rag Quilt Step-by-Step Directions Yay! I finished this fleece and denim rag quilt for my son. He loves it! It is nice and warm, and looks great in his room.
Fleece and Denim Rag Quilt Jeans Rag Quilt Tips
These are a few tips to keep in mind before you start your jeans and fleece rag quilt: - Make sure your sewing machine can handle several layers of denim. Not all machines can.
- No need for batting: denim and fleece are both very warm.
- Special rag-quilt scissors are available at your local sewing store. They are well-worth your investment. (Use a coupon!)
- Though this quilt is easy to make, it does take a lot of time, so be ready for that.
- There are pockets on both the front and back of this quilt, which I did on purpose. However, as it turns out, my son did not like that: he thought they should appear on the front only. Just something to think about before your start sewing.
- I like the looks of this quilt, but if I was to make it again, I would use two solid colors of fleece, rather than one solid and one print. It would have given a more ageless feel in my opinion.
- Hitting your finger with a hammer really hurts! And will hurt for several weeks, so be careful! (Yes, that is experience speaking...! ) (Find out how hammers are related to quilt-making in the slideshow below....)
Jeans Rag Quilt Tutorial: Jeans and Fleece Rag Quilt
- Cut 150 jeans squares (8 inches x 8 inches )
- Cut 75 fleece squares (color A)
- Cut 75 fleece squares (color B)
- Make quilt sandwiches
- Sew into 10 strips of 15 squares
- Attach strips together
- Snip-snip
- Throw in the laundry
Voila! Go through the slideshow below to see step-by step direction on how to make your own denim and fleece rag quilt.
Heart Shaped Handwarmers ~~~ Hey! It looks like a star in the middle... :) Well, it's chilly this time of year, so I got busy making some heart-shaped hand-warmers.
Upcycled Sweaters made into cute little heart rice handwarmers We always do a cookie exchange with all my besties, but as we are all getting a little more health-conscious (aka older), a little gift is more appropriate... So when I saw these cute handwarmers that Jessi made at Practically Functional, I knew what my girlfriends were getting this year for Christmas.... Hand-held Rice Warm Hearts I had lots of sweater remnants from upcycled sweater pillows I've made, so it was fun to make these cute little heart hand warmers in lots of different colors... :) {naturally my favorite colors are the mint and teal...: so retro cool... !!!} Swoon.... Love these colors...! Now let's hope that they like them as much as I enjoyed making them for them....
Hope your winter is nice and cozy warm! x Crystelle P.S. Just pop these little rice bags into the microwave for about 30 seconds and place them into your pockets or gloves before you go outside on a chilly day
Make a fun skirt form discarded neck ties Beautiful Elly Here it is: the long awaited tutorial for the skirt made from upcycled neck ties.... that I introduced to you in this previous post.
I love this skirt. It is so fun to see some of the ties that my husband used to wear.... Not gone, just used in a different capacity.. :) It's like a memory-quilt, except it's a piece of clothing.... This skirt is a size "small" but thanks to the t-shirt waistband, fits SOOOO many different people. It is so fun to see how great it looks on many different figures. My friend Elly Gray agreed to be my model for today, and I am glad she did! We had a fun time outside (even if it was a bit cold), and we got some cool pictures. She is a gifted and creative person and a wonderful mom to three terrific kids. Doesn't she look great? tie skirt DIY upcycled tieskirt ~ fun ~ funky ~ festive The skirt looks totally different when you turn it to show off different ties, and combine it with different colors... Isn't it great?
